The chargeback letter — what to write to your bank
The short answer: bank dispute teams decide on evidence and deadlines. Your letter states the payment, the breach, what you did to resolve it, and the amount — with documents attached. Debit chargebacks typically run to a 120-day window from expected completion.

The structure
1. The payment — date, amount, card last-4, merchant name as it appears on the statement. 2. The contract — quote date, scope, price. 3. The breach — dated facts: non-delivery, abandonment, defective work. 4. Your resolution attempts — complaint letters, responses, deadlines given. 5. The amount and the reason code — "goods/services not provided" or "not as described". 6. Attachments — quote, invoices, photos, correspondence.
The rules
Credit card over £100: name section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act explicitly — the lender's liability is statutory, not scheme goodwill. Refused? Escalate free to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Keep copies of everything in your evidence file.
